Working in the legal industry can be very stressful, especially for women. Often times we are faced with the consent headache of proving our self-worth and intelligence in a male dominated field. Caseload aside, having to work harder to be seen and heard can put a toll on your mind body. So how does one recognize when their are stressed or even on the verge of a full meltdown?

For some women, one small sign of stress is their body begins to ache. For others, a simple glance in the mirror may reveal more gray hairs or your once smooth and youthful face begins to become unrecognizable. That’s right ladies, your face does pays for it! Another sign is simply feeling like you are just off balance, maybe more than usual or all of a sudden. You may become irritable and just overall suffer. As an active member of the legal community, one naturally tends to take on other people’s problems. It’s our special skill, what can we say. We are expected to know all the tea .

Sometimes you just have to uninstall those social media apps, turn the TV OFF! that includes The Real Housewives, Love and Hip Hop and our favorite Joselyn’s Cabaret, even the news can cause some form of stress….TURN IT OFF !. As women it is essential that we are able to turn off our work mind and turn our minds on to the things we like and the activities that maintain our self care . We spend so much time in work mode perfecting our skills, dealing with deadlines and worrying about that big promotion. It’s imperative that we make time to unwind and cater to our needs.

So how does one do that you ask? Well, you can start by running that bath water, turning on some Keith Sweat, and sipping on your favorite relaxing tea. Fearful that your kids and/or husband will not leave you alone? Try going out to eat at your favorite restaurant by yourself. You have to have those inner staff meetings to make sure the brain, the heart, the body, and the soul are still working together.

Helpful Self Care Ideas :

  • Hot baths;
  • Reading;
  • Turning the phone off / putting it on do not disturb;
  • Intimate date night with yourself ;
  • Drink wine, lots of it;
  • Mediation;
  • Self care ( hair, nails, shopping, working out );
  • Just getting back to you;
  • Set goals or journaling;
  • Create visions boards;
  • Yoga; or
  • Simply do nothing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing nothing.
